About the area.
The golden sand beaches of the North Cornish coast are a magnet for young families and surfers of all ages. Surfing lessons can be taken at Polzeath, Newquay and many other beaches. Windsurfing is carried out in the Camel estuary at Daymer Bay with water skiing and sailing centred around Rock.
Wadebridge is the main access point onto the camel trail and has several companies offering bike hire. From here you can cycle down the trail to Padstow or up to Bodmin and the moor beyond. For anyone wanting a slightly more vigorous start to their ride, it is possible to access the trail from Trerice through the forestry land and over Polbrock bridge.
Fishing trips can be arranged from Padstow and Port Isaac where the local boats land fresh fish, crabs and lobsters for the markets and restaurants such as Rick Stein's. There is game fishing on the river Camel and a trout farm near by.
Anyone wanting a more adventurous hike will find it on the North Cornish coastal path where the windswept headlands give walkers spectacular views along rugged cliff tops, into coves, caves, old mine workings and harbours.
If a hike with a bag and ball is your thing then you'll find plenty of choice in the area to suit all standards, from the driving range and 9 hole course at St Kew to, the famous Jack Nicklaus course at St Mellion.
